72 HOURS IN NEW ORLEANS

If you live in Utah, we are the depths of January gloom. We booked a last minute getaway with friends to New Orleans, it would be the perfect girls trip too.

STAY
We absolutely loved our stay at Maison de la Luz. Part of the ACE hotel property group, the space was designed by Studio Shamshiri. Completed in 2019, it has all the modern amenities and old world charm. At 5:00 they have a complimentary cocktail hour with wine and and cheese. In the evenings they also serve the most delicious freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I think this might be my favorite hotel in the US.
Be sure to check out the hotel bar, Bar Marilou. A wall of bookshelves opens up into a hidden bar. Lined with bookshelves, plush interiors and live music. You’re guaranteed to have a great evening.

EAT
There's no shortage of good food in New Orleans. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so much on a trip. So many wonderful restaurants and young inventive chefs.

PECHE
I think we ordered half the menu and every single dish was amazing.
MOSQUITO SUPPER CLUB
Owned by New Orleans chef Melissa Martin (also has a cook book by the same name) hosts a beautiful communal dining experience in an old New Orleans mansion. Reservations must be made in advance. Keep in mind it's a prix fixe menu and if you have any food allergies you'll need to notify them beforehand.

CAFE DU MONDE
An institution for a reason. These delectable fried pastries are worth the calories. Be sure to visit their original location in the French quarter, the line moves quickly so don't be deterred by the wait.
SHAYA
A wonderful middle eastern restaurant that was a welcome reprieve from all the fried southern food we consumed all weekend. The best pita bread you’ll ever have made in a wood burning stove.

SHOP
Walk along Magazine Street which goes on forever and is filled with art galleries, beautiful old homers, shopping and restaurants. We spent an entire afternoon exploring.

PILOT & POWELL
A high end women's boutique that's beautifully curated.
BILLY REID
A great men's store, Donnie purchased a few things here and I got to sit in their comfy leather sofas.
SEE
NATIONAL WORLD WAR II MUSUEM
History buffs won't want to miss this incredible museum. Give yourself plenty of time, we spent three hours here and had to rush towards the end to catch our flight.
